Today at the Phoenix Public Market Saturday Farmers Market you’ll find fun stuff for the holidays. Gifts, treats & decor for you, your family and even that hard to shop for friend. Best of all-it’s all locally created, baked, made, grown and harvested; so more of your hard earned money stays right here, in Arizona. Most items available are one of a kind too.

Todays market includes Certified Organic, Artisan Crafted, Amazingly Delicious cookies by Woobie’s Cookies, made with love in every bite. They are offered in Original Woobiedoodle, Cinnamon Vanilla, Cocoa Granache and Caramel Brulee. Each package consists of 2 cookies, and I must say the Caramel Brulee is delicious.

Also at the market is farm fresh pesticide and chemical free farming by Da’-Nede’ farms plus beautiful Ponsettias (not real name btw).

Looking for a fabulous hostess gift? The Lavender Barn has hand made mutt mist for the one who has it all, plus lotions, soaps & aroma pet beds.

Karen’s Kids Corner is teaching the kiddies how to make ceramic chimes for only a donation. Plus she has her fabulous pottery creations.

Today is a great day to enjoy the Phoenix Public M+arket. Its a bit chilly, but not too cold. There are many new vendors, like my neighbor from Sugar Jam Cookies; who cakes fabulous jam filled sugar cookies, sold in packages of 6 for $7 (exclusive package created for the PPM). There is a new flavor at the Desert Delights gourmet peanut brittle, Jalapeno Peanut Brittle, which sells for $5 per bag or 5 bags for $20. Shane’s Flaming Planet is here with Corn Salsa & Chipotle-Habanero Pepper Sauce too. I’m here with ShopDevious.com and our Fashionably Green Feather & Recycled Accessories, offering them half off, when you buy one at regular price. Need new reading material? They have a free book exchange here as well. ASU students show your school ID when you make a purchase at our booth and get a free gift (must mention this post) while supplies last.

Todays PPM Farmers market is bursting with gift ideas, for all your friends and family, this Holiday Season. You can watch live gourd art, kids can make a sun catcher at Karen’s Kids corner and the entire family can eat from one of the plethora of homemade food stations too. Want some pizazz without all the fuss for your Holiday Festivities? Add a feather in your hair temporarily or with a micro bead, which keeps feathers extensions in your hair for up to 2 months (depends on individual beauty regimen).

Dia De Los Muertos -Heard Museum 2011

A few days ago I was invited to a dance performance at the Heard Museums Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos) celebration. I was pleasantly surprised, to see a bunch of Artist & Designers huddled together, along the pathway to the entrance. Some of the designers are from out of state, but the majority are local to Arizona. Enjoy these photos taken by me Anna Marie. Most artist info will follow or proceed the photo of the Artwork.

We went, we saw and boy did we eat! It was the last day of the fair, Sunday and we arrived at 3pm. Everyone must have had the same idea, because it was jammed packed.  There were so many new items & food choices it was hard to decide-what got in my belly!

I started with a cinnamon roll that was absolutely devine, and I’m not ashamed to amit that I devoured it before we exited the exhibit hall- the one closest to 19th ave. It was a big thick slice of heaven, topped with a cream cheese icing, which they ladled on (2 scoops for me), covered with whole walnuts. It was such a fabulous find for $5.75; I wanted seconds before I even sampled it.

Next we went for fried & steamed artichokes. It was my first time having them fried, so I didn’t know what to expect. They resembled fried mushrooms, plump and golden, served with ranch dressing (dressing was just ok). They were soooo delicious! Dont know why I have never eaten them before, but ill be eating plenty from here on out.

My companions both ate chicken skewers, which I sampled and loved! They were from the artichoke stand, and seasoned to perfection. Only thing I would change is the dark meat to chicken breast

We tried saving room for a fried desert, but after downing jalapeno chips and a pickle, fried zucchini was all I had room for. It was well cooked, not hard the middle, but melt in your mouth perfection. I was so happy to see a tasting size item served at the Fair = it was $1.50 for the stick and i couldn’t even finish it!

Next year I’m going to refrain from eating so much, so that I can walk on water….(Check out the photos and you’ll understand.) We had the hilarious pleasure of witnessing the exotic birds clean and pick at each other, so I had to include them.

Here are a few photos of the types of food offered at the Arizona State Fair this year, 2011.

Enjoy!
Anna Marie
